More from Britton

As I was putting Britton to bed tonight, he asked, “Mommy, where does God live?”
“In heaven,” I said.
To which he quickly replied, “He can come over to my house sometime!”

Tonight we got a visit from the Nashville Fire Department – the paint fumes were so bad in our house from the house next door! Hopefully a few open windows and fans will do the trick. God knows we don’t need any more sickness in this house!

Sweet boy, Great hair

We’ve been meeting a lot of new people lately, but for some reason, this week more than ever, we’ve consistently been hearing two things about our little boy from EVERYONE we come into contact with: “He’s such a sweet boy and he’s got such great hair!” Seriously, I’m talking strangers in Publix, church workers, YMCA playroom, old friends, you name it – people who watch him for more than three seconds automatically come to the same conclusion. And we’d have to agree.

What’s even funnier is that Britton had to come in big church with us tonight becuase the three year old class was full. We realized two things after this experience:
1. No matter how “over their head” you think a conversation may be for kids, you’re WRONG. They hear EVERYTHING! Britton seemed to be coloring during the sermon, but every other minute he’d repeat a word the pastor said, “SELFLESS?” “BIBLE?” “CRAZY?” It’s like he was amazed that some stranger used the same vocabulary that we did in our home. The funniest moment was when the pastor said “legally” and Britton turned to me and said, “WIGGLY???” – yes, everything in Britton’s world eventually comes back to the Wiggles.
The childcare director happened to be sitting in the row in front of us and after service she turned around and said, “That was seriously the sweetest and funniest thing I think I’ve ever heard.” We know – he’s ours and we still think he’s hysterical!

2. We need to travel everywhere with at least 6 crayons; not because Britton likes to color, but ever since the Disney cruise he’s become obsessed with peeling crayons. No joke. Aside from repeating words as mentioned above, the boy “sat” quitely for over a half hour obsessed with stripping those crayons. Not a bad deal.

Catching Up

Ok, so I know I’ve slacked off a bit lately. Don’t worry. I’m not falling into my bad Florida habits. I’ve just been busy!

In the past two weeks: our son turned 3 and we hosted our first birthday party in our new home, two mothers have visited over two weekends, Britton has had an ear infection and Kariss is just getting over pink eye – whew!

Tonight we got to attend an amazing event at our church that was a benefit for a boy named David who has glaucoma. Essentially, we got to listen to Brandon Heath, Matthew West, our friend Tiffany (Plumb), and Jason Ingram (a worship leader at our church) take turn singing songs acoustically. They were all sitting next to each other on stools, sharing the stories behind their songs and having fun with each other. I’m not the biggest fan of concerts (the way I know them as big stadiums with a lot of drunk people partying in the parking lot), but this was just up my alley. What a treat!

Before going to bed, Ricky surprised Kariss with the news that he’d be taking her to a daddy/daughter dance on Friday night. After her gleeful smile subsided a bit, the first words out of her mouth were, “What shoes will I wear?”
Honestly, I don’t know why we were suprised. It was a classic moment. Our daughter, the fashion designer.

Britton turns 3!

Yes, our little boy turned 3 yesterday! We can’t believe it.

I didn’t want to be on the computer during our celebratory weekend, so let me give you a brief update of all the fun that transpired:
Friday: Nani (shortened from Nanita, who is actually Anita, Rick’s mom) flew in from Florida. We took her for her first lunch at Monell’s in Germantown (though the restaurant is neither German nor in a town, but family style, good-ole traditional southern fare). Nani wanted to get the kids cowboy hats and boots for the birthday, and while we haven’t successfully found boots yet (i know, amazing that it would be this hard to find in Music City), we did find a cute cowboy and cowgirl hat (I promise to post pics soon). The evening ended with popcorn in front of the fireplace.

Saturday: Britton’s expression coming down the stairs to discovery his Mickey Mouse Clubhouse birthday party decorations were priceless! (Check out Facebook for the video) We found the “Party in a Box” for $2.50 at The Disney Store when we first moved here (which motivated the theme), and it was a big hit! He was awed and amazed that there was a birthday party, presents and decorations – just for him!
Ricky and Anita took the kids to Lowe’s to meet up with the rest of their friends to build a racecar (check out the free workshops at both Home Depot – usually the 1st Saturday of each month – and Lowe’s – usually every other Saturday). The kids had a great time (but I think the dad’s may have had even more fun!). I stayed behind to finish our Britton-selected menu: PB&J, homemade pizza, popcorn, “spicy chips” (Doritos), “fruit salad” (inspired from the Wiggles song, but this included grapes and strawberries), and finally homemade hummus and pita chips (so the adults had something for just them!)

Once again, Kariss was the only girl in the group (with the exception of Kathryn and Clementine, who are each 7 months old), so she quickly became the princess that the 7 pirates were trying to rescue. After a brave adventure throughout the house, the kids feasted on a brownie cake shaped like a Mickey head and mini chocolate  cupcakes with little “Bickey”s on them. It’s not a birthday in Britton’s mind until someone has cake and gets to blow out a candle.

Sunday: We brought the rest of the cupcakes to Britton’s class at church and then nw friends at church treated us to lunch at J. Alexanders. It had snowed the night before, so we got to enjoy the sunny but cold weather and even made it out to the “dragon” park for a little while before heading home.

All in all, we had a great time. I’ll be posting pictures soon and we’ll be happy to duplicate the celebration (or create an equally exciting one) if any of you want to venture our way in the upcoming months!
